San Rocco di Castagnaretta carrot is a typical products of the Cuneo area.

Identikit and main features

The carrot of San Rocco Castagnaretta presents a linear, almost cylindrical, yellow-orange taproot,  with a short greenish-purplish blue crown: It has a soft and crispy pulp. It is sweet and its main feature is the simple working process.

Area of production

The area of production overlaps with the bottom-valley area on the south of Cuneo, between the Stura river and the Gesso creek.

History

The cultivation of this carrot has very ancient origins, in fact, in the past in eachfarm there was a gardener who supplied the farm owners with these carrots. To promote this product it has been created the The “Consorzio di tutela della Carita di San Rocco Castagnaretta“, in collaboration with the Farmers’ Association.
