Round apricot of Costigliole, native variety

The fruit is medium-small size, with light orange-yellow peel and reddish marbling. It is particularly appreciated for its excellent organoleptic characteristics like the juicy pulp and the intense aroma.

The Round apricot of Costigliole is a typical products of the province of Cuneo and is present on the market in July and August.

Identikit and main features

The Tonda of Costigliole variety is a round and medium-sized apricot; its peel is orange-yellow-coloured or marble red. The pulp is yellow-orange-coloured and it has hard consistency. It is sweet and has an intense fragrance. This round apricot is characterised  by the intense aroma and the juiciness of the pulp.

Area of production

The area of production includes the hill belt and  the nearby plan area from Busca to Saluzzo with its centre in the town of Costigliole Saluzzo.

History

Its origins date back to the ‘50s when its cultivation spread among the hills of Saluzzo, particularly suitable thank to the climate condition of this area.
