Bra, “capital” of the Roero

Bra is a city to be experienced, where you can discover the excellences of local food and wine, culture, events and history.

Located in the Roero area, this town on a human scale is located in a strategic position between the Langhe and Turin.

Located among the Roero hills, vineyards and castles, Bra is an historical city, cradle of food and wine excellences. It has very ancient origins which date back to the Neolitic Age, the Roman Empire up to the Savoy domination. Today the city counts about 30.000 inhabitants and it is famous thanks to the Slow Food movement, for its sausage, for its international events and because it is the cradle of the piedmontese Baroque.

What to see

Walking around in the streets you will see the round facade of the city hall, the church of Santa Chiara, work of art realised bt the royal architect Bernardo Antonio Vittone, the church of the Trinità, known as the church of “White Penitents”. You can visit also the Natural History Museum and the one of Art and Archeology, it is important to mention also the Toy Museum. The central via Cavour is the meeting point of the inhabitants in fact here you can find cafés and historical shops, where the writer Giovanni Arpino used to spend his time. The Zizzola palace is the symbol of the city, it is located in the Monteguglielmo hill. Moreover you can visit the majestic sanctuary of Madonna dei Fiori and Pollenzo, the most famous hamlet of Bra, on its square overlooks many noble buildings. From several years Pollenzo host the University Food Sciences. The tower on the square hosts the Wine Bank, where are conserved some famous aged Italian cru.

Eat & Drink

Bra is a land characterised by special wine and food, many excellences produced here are famous all over the world, such as the Bra sausage, made with veal meat and perfect to be eaten raw, the hard and soft Bra cheese, the fresh vegetables, the bread and the Mac ‘d Bra, a sandwich made with all the local excellences: Bra long leavening bread, sausage, fresh lettuce and cheese.
