In view of the 22nd edition of the Festa del Re Marrone, which will be held on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October, Chiusa di Pesio (CN) is preparing to welcome visitors among delicious aromas, tastings, quality crafts and typical products. The protagonist of the traditional festival will be the Marrone di Chiusa di Pesio, a fine fruit that has its typical range in the agricultural area of the “Vigne”, just downstream of the town. In addition to food and wine moments, the festival will also offer ample space for crafts, which will be joined by workshops, cultural initiatives, concentrations and tourist proposals.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 26TH
The day will open at 10 am, with the inauguration of the Regional Centre of Centro Regionale di Castanicoltura in Gambarello Region 23, in Chiusa di Pesio: after the institutional greetings and the interventions of the guests present, the guided tour and an aperitif with local products will follow.
From 5 pm, the appointment will be in Via Roma, in the heart of the country, for the “Merenda del Möndaié” with roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, apple fritters and typical products based on chestnuts and chestnuts. While from 6.30PM, in collaboration with the Traders Association Il Mirabello, you will be able to taste an aperitif rich in chestnut based snacks. From 7.30 pm, always in via Roma, traditional polenta under a heated tent with musical entertainment. New for 2019: plenty of polenta with chestnut sauce, leeks and cream, Cuneo brown cake, small bottle of water for just 8 euros!
SUNDAY OCTOBER 27TH
Sunday 27th October, in the centre of Chiusa di Pesio, throughout the day there will be markets and exhibitions with food stands and more. Particular importance will be given to products derived from chestnut and from brown that will invade the historic center with scents, flavours and colours. Many appointments are scheduled to start in the morning with the Gira & Tuira Association, which will organize a cycling tour for the more sporty, visiting the area to discover the chestnut culture. Throughout the day, the Slow Food Monregalese Convivium Cebano Alta Val Tanaro and Pesio will offer Taste Workshops with particular attention to the chestnut and its varieties. In the entrance hall of the Palazzo Comunale, the public will be able to view “Il Castagno”, a 24-minute documentary film by the director Giancarlo Baudena, all day long. From 10 to 16, departing from Via Roma, guided tours with a free shuttle to the Regional Centre of Castanicoltura, Gambarello Forest Nursery and the Park’s Emile Burnat Plant Biodiversity Centre in Via Sant’Anna 34.
At lunchtime the appointment will be in via Roma, for a banquet in honour of the Brown King under the heated tent: trio of appetizers, ravioli with maroon flavour ragout, brown wild boar, sweet chestnuts with zabaione, taste of roast chestnuts, water bottle for 18 euros. Menu for children up to 8 years: ravioli, dessert and water for 8 euros.
In the afternoon the party will continue with music and dances from the Limone Piemonte folk group together with local roast chestnuts, mulled wine, chestnut cream liqueur, apple fritters, sale of Chiusa di Pesio chestnuts and typical sweets, display equipment and machinery for chestnuts . From 4 pm, in Piazza Cavour (under the Pellerino), Show Cooking by the Cuneo Cooks Association with free admission. Will be cooked and tasted dishes based on Chestnut of Chiusa di Pesio and chestnuts from the Pesio Valley.
