Sunday 10th November the Castle of Grinzane Cavour hosts the 20th edition of the Alba White Truffle World Auction, the most important and prestigious auction linked to the world of the White Truffle of Alba, organized by the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, in collaboration with the Piedmont Region and the Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani Consortium.
The best specimens of White Truffle in Alba are beaten in front of a prestigious public, with live connections from the 8 and a half Bombana Restaurant in Hong Kong and from the most famous restaurants in the world, allowing this magnificent product of the earth to be celebrated in a context of international solidarity.
An important birthday for the Alba White Truffle World Auction: twenty years for the main charity event linked to the prized underground mushroom, an event that over time has been able to reconcile the promotion of the excellence of the territory with the international destination of huge solidarity funds, coming to collect the remarkable figure of over 4.4 million euros.
The Auction will take place as usual at the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, a site decreed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, in the presence of prominent enogastronomic characters, the world of entertainment, entrepreneurship and for the first time with the new president of the Piedmontese Enoteca Regionale Cavour Roberto Bodrito, who recently took over from Senator Tomaso Zanoletti.
Thanks to the organization of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour, to the precious support of the Piedmont Region and of the Italian National Tourism Agency and to the collaboration with the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourist Board, once again extraordinary lots of Alba white truffle of considerable size, in combination with the large formats of the wines of the producers belonging to the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani.
From the hall of Grinzane Cavour, live starting at 1:00 pm, the connection to Hong Kong will open, where the World Auction of the White Alba Truffle® can count on the consolidated support of the three Michelin star chef Umberto Bombana. It is in fact within its restaurant “8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana” that the eastern metropolis will express its appreciation for the lots sold, with the aim of bringing support through the funds raised at the Mother’s Choice Institute, a charitable association which helps many children without families, vulnerable and in difficulty, with the aim of giving hope and changing their life prospects.
But the number twenty edition could only be special: for the first time, in fact, the city-state of Singapore will participate in the event, which together with the Russian capital Moscow will contend with the other two locations, Grinzane Cavour and Hong Kong, the magnificent final lot consisting of the most beautiful White Truffle of Alba and the most important formats of Barolo and Barbaresco.
In Moscow, directly on the Red Square, an excellent lunch prepared by Chef Davide Corso del Bosco Cafe at the Magazzini Gum will be dedicated to His Majesty the White Truffle of Alba. The event will be anticipated Thursday 7 November from the press conference for the presentation of the World Auction of the White Truffle of Alba® and the food and wine excellences of the Piedmont Region at the Embassy of Italy in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Pasquale Terracciano.
In Singapore, the enthusiasm for the Langhe territory of the starred Italian Chef Beppe De Vito, owner of 5 restaurants in the city, will be the catalyst at the iconic National Gallery of the first and historic event dedicated to the White Truffle of Alba in the south east capital Asian. An opportunity not to be missed for the inhabitants of the cultural, commercial and global financial center with over five million inhabitants.

Every edition of the Alba White Truffle World Auction celebrates the best chefs in the world and their mastery in the use of the prized mushroom, earning the title of “Ambassador of the White Truffle of the Dawn in the World”. The title will be awarded this year to two important bishops of world cuisine.
Massimiliano Alajmo of the famous Paduan family at the head of a group dedicated to the cuisine of the highest level, started from that restaurant Le Calandre founded by father Erminio and tributary of the first Michelin star thanks to the mother-chef Rita Chimetto in 1992. In 2002, at 28 years old, Massimiliano becomes the youngest chef in the world to win three Michelin stars for the famous restaurant of Sarmeola di Rubano (Pd).
Yong Zhang, born in the city of Linhai, a town in Zhejiang province in southern China, is the founder and executive chef of the Xinrongji group. With two restaurants, one one-star and one two-Michelin-star in Shanghai and a one-Michelin-star restaurant in Hong Kong, the chef over the years has specialized in exceptional menus paired with the Alba White Truffle.
The pleasant presence of Caterina Balivo was confirmed also for this edition, after the debut last year, as the official presenter of the event. The presenter of “Come from Me”, program broadcast every afternoon on RaiUno from 2.00 pm, will be joined by the historic “friend of the Auction” Enzo Iacchetti, comedian and presenter, currently engaged in the 2019 edition of “Striscia la Notizia ”, the satirical news of Canale 5. It will be the task of the writer and journalist Paolo Vizzari to study in depth the food and wine themes linked to the excellence of local products.
