Barbera d’Asti DOCG – Cascina del Frate

The winery was born in Costigliole d’Asti in 1942. Founded by Giuseppe Gozzelino and managed today by his nephew Giorgio, he produces Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG, Grignolino d’asti DOC, Piemonte Chardonnay DOC, Piemonte Cortese DOC, Monferrato DOC Dolcetto and Monferrato Bianco, from Arneis grapes. These wines are obtained from the 11 hectares of vineyards located under the Madonnina church of Costigliole d’Asti.

In steel barrels.

Maturation

8 months in steel barrels.

Main features

Intense red colour;  complex to nose with hints of spices, vanilla, cocoa, undergrowth and cherry; rich and velvety, persistent and harmonious taste. The finish reproduces the intensity of the fruity tones.

Pairings

Pasta, veal, pork, game such as deer or chamois, poultry.

Service temperature

16 °C – 18 °C (60 – 64 °F)

From this vineyard dating back to 1972 facing south, about 11 thousand bottles of Barbera d’Asti DOCG are obtained. Extremely versatile in gastronomic combinations with Piedmontese cuisine, it is able to surprise with many international dishes.
