The food offer of Saluzzo is very wide thanks to the fresh products of the tradition of this area. The piedmontese cattle guarantee quality meats and even the white meat is very good.

It is the capital of an ancient marquisate which lasted four centuries and it conserves a urban architecture which dates to 1400. The historical centre is spread around the hill and in the past it was enclosed by a double ring of walls. Today Saluzzo is one of the most exclusive centre for the furniture and the art of restoration it can boast of a century wood and iron processing tradition. Its countryside is famous for the fruit production.

The food offer of Saluzzo is very wide thanks to the fresh products of the tradition of this area. The piedmontese  cattle guarantee quality meats and even the white meat is very good. In Saluzzo is bred the White Hen of Saluzzo, awarded with the Slow Food recognition. Among the cheeses you can find CastelmagnoTumin de MelNostrale, and Toma d’Elva, but the best local products are fruits, in particular peaches, apricots and plums (ramassin), apples, pears and kiwi. The agricultural products are protagonists of the “women market” (el mercà d’le fômne) which is held every Saturday. Many confectioneries propose Saluzzesi al Rhum pralines and hazelnut and chocolate sweets. The most important wines are the Colline Saluzzesi Aoc, the Pelaverga and the Quagliano

Culinary destinations

The Locanda Corona di Ferro is located in the heart of Saluzzo, near the cathedral. Here the chef Alberto Melano offers many recipes that join the traditional taste of Piedmont with new innovative flavours. He wanted to create a friendly and informal atmosphere, which is at the same time fine and elegant exactly as his recipes are. The restaurant conservers the typical atmosphere of the inns and the menu reflects the place, in fact here, you can enjoy a new interpretation of the traditional recipes. You can find handmade fresh pasta, rice and dumplings, tripe and cakes. In addition you can taste also selected cured meat and cheeses.

In via Silvio Pellico there is the Delsoglio confectionery, a small family run shop, founded by Bruna and Maurizio, who from 30 years prepare cakes and pretzels with love for all the inhabitants. They are helped by their sons Giorgia and Andrea, who bring a touch of innovation. Andrea is 24 years old and he has recently received the “Frusta d’Oro 2019″, an important prize given by the Federazione Intenazionale di Pasticceria, gelateria e cioccolateria; thanks to this recognition the Delsoglio confectionery is now included in the top quality list of the Italian confectioners (Albo federale top quality dell’arte bianca d’ Italia).

In the same street you can visit also the elegant Bar Ferrero, which is the ideal place to taste a good ice-cream It is very appreciated by the inhabitants in particular for its custard.
