“All began in the ancient Benedictine monastery of San Pietro. Here, in the city of Savigliano, in a cloister, which has recently been restored, the monks have cultivated for centuries herbs and medical plants. Some of these herbs grew only at certain altitudes, so that they went to collect them on mountains; then they distilled and dried these herbs to make healing essences. The tradition tells there were five passages to make a perfect product, almost divine. For this reason we use the expression “QuintEssenza” to denote something superlative”.
This year QuinteEssenza celebrates its XXII edition and it has become a standing date in the calendar of the Cuneo province events. This fair was invented to celebrate officinal herbs and spices, used in many different sectors. Also this year, on 19th May, specialised exhibitors will show their products according to the theme and will enrich the city with their natural and eco-sustainable products. During each edition visitors can join many side events: the herbs exhibitions-market, tasting and sensorial experiences with the local products and workshop with experts.
The squares of the historical centre are literally invaded by colourful and perfumed stalls, which create a special open air market. Piazza Santarosa becomes the “Square of the herbs”, where you can buy body creams, purifying teas, distillates, organic gastronomy and many handicraft and design objects besides street food which offers farinata, apple fritters, homemade beers and the “Canipulo”, an historical sandwich invented in the XVII century as demonstrated in some documents of the city archives.
QuintEssenza is not only about wellness, natural cosmetics, aromatherapy, in this fair you can find also piece of furniture, natural tinctures, nursery gardening, garden tools and specialised publishing.
The University of Herbal Techniques and the Musés, the European Academy of essences, located inside Palazzo Taffini d’Acceglio are real protagonists of the event and propose many interesting workshops. In all these places, in particular in the Taffini d’Acceglio palace, families can join funny laboratories created for kids.
