A Christmas town recreated in the park of Castello di Govone, with markets and cribs, and even journeys on the historical train. From November 16th to December 22nd.

of Nadia Toppino

The Castello di Govone is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is famous for its interiors and the 18th-century garden. It was a fortress in medieval times, it was rebuilt in the current Baroque form by the Counts Solaro. Purchased by the Savoy at the end of the 1700s, it was chosen by Carlo Felice as a summer holiday, and is now the seat of the town hall.

Inside you can admire the splendid two-flight staircase of honour rich in reliefs and giants from the gardens of the Royal Palace of Venaria, the halls decorated with splendid Chinese tapestries, the ballroom frescoed by Luigi Vacca and Fabrizio Sevesi with scenes from the mythological episode of Niobe and the large central hall. And then there is the fascinating Italian garden, the eighteenth-century park designed by the landscape architect Xavier Kurten and the rose garden. Right here, in the timeless charm of these gardens, the Magical Christmas Town has found its home during the Christmas season.

The Magic Christmas Village

Govone in fact, at the end of the year celebrations, is decorated with lights, decorations, cribs, flea markets and many events to become in effect the dream country of young and old.

And this is one of the most suggestive occasions to visit this town in the Cuneo area.

Among the many events on offer are theatrical performances, Santa’s home, culinary workshops, tastings, guided visits to the Castle, Christmas carols and street artists’ shows.

And like any self-respecting Christmas town, there is the Christmas market set up along the avenue of the castle and with its more than 100 houses full of decorations and gift ideas, but also many gastronomic products, mulled wine and hot chocolate, welcomes visitors with a magical atmosphere.

For the 2019 edition, the Magic Christmas Country Market is a candidate to participate in the European Best Christmas Markets competition where it will compete as the only Italian representation!

Do not miss the crib, in this case a mechanical crib with artisans, shepherds, animals, fishermen and peasants, who come to life thanks to a complex system, created by the Association La Collina degli Elfi.
