The Gaja winery was founded in 1859 in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Langhe and it has always been recognised as one of the name associated to the Barbaresco production. From the founder Giovanni up to Angelo Gaja, this family has been able to dominate in the international wine market thanks to a fundamental recipe: the pursuit of quality.

WINE DESCRIPTION

Grape types
Nebbiolo.

Winemaking
Produced using pure Nebbiolo grapes, which are carefully selected by the Gaja’s team during the hand harvest. After the winemaking, the grapes are subject to a double aging, which is fundamental to develop completely the features of this wine.

Maturation

In barrels for 12 months and then another year in bigger wooden barrels

Main features
Brilliant grenade red; undergrowth soil, cherry and blueberries scent, with notes of bitter orange, roses and pot herbs. Warm and soft at taste with the vividness of the tannin and a percentage of acidity that gives equilibrium and persistence.

Pairings
Meat and seasoned cheeses.

18 °C – 20 °C (65 °F – 68 °F)

About… Barbaresco.

Barbaresco  is a red wine recognised with the Controlled Denomination Origin (AOC) produced in some municipalities of Piedmont. The original area of the grape types suitable for the Barolo AOC, recognised on 31st August 1933, includes the territories of the following municipalities: Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga D’Alba and part of La Morra, Monforte D’Alba, Roddi, Verduno, Cherasco, Diano d’Alba, Novello and Grinzane Cavour, all located in the Cuneo province.
